.... There is New Snow on High Prairie......
Saturday March 22, 2003
I went up late Sat Afternoon....It was almost dark when
I got there...Snowin like Hell......I broke track with my Pickup about 1/2
mile up the Hi Prairie Rd... To the Switchback by the Thru Cut...Sat Eve
the Snow was a little wet but it was sticking...Just above Horkela Meadows
it turned drier... and by the time I got to High Prairie there was
probably between 1 and 2 feet of new...I didnt measure it.... Just about
the right amount to have fun playin in....It was coming over the windshield
when I let off.. I didnt mess around too much up there as I was by myself
and didnt want to get stuck....... and I came back..... I was loaded up and
back down to the Switchback just above Hwy 35... and came upon a couple of
Sled that had just unloaded....A Phaser and an XLT I think. there were 3
of them... I suggested they run the sleds by the shady area and reload and
then unload at the High Prairie Junction....I figured there was about a mile
of bare pavement in front of them in the next 1 1/2 miles
I think they did.... I'm not sure all the names..One was a Craig, and
a Hansen
Not sure if those were first or last names.....Their Sleds were running.....
Hope they didnt get stuck too many times on the sleds....It was makin me
earn my keep up there......
Monday March 24, 2003
I didnt go up Sunday
I headed back up Late Monday Afternoon.... didnt leave
till almost 5 PM
I Procastinate a lot...... It was a beautifull day all day.... till
I left... It was cloudin up again. The Mountain was pretty much obscured
by then......I got to the same place to unload again.... Little easier breakin
snow by then with the pickup..... Probably get trailers up there now.....
It was Snowin when I got up there....;-)) And the
Damn Wilderness Signs were still there... ;-((
The Snow had settled a bunch, and by
the tracks, there had been a few sleds up
Sunday, and couple on Monday too.....Cant tell where they came from
for sure..
It's perfect Spring Riding now..... I could go anywhere...I found
places I had never been before.....
.
I Found this Overlook just down from High Prairie...You cant quite make it
out, but Parkdale is at the bottom of the Canyon.... The bare spot down the
hill is an old clearcut .... At about 4500' elevation is totally bare....
Anyplace that gets any wind and sun is bare....
Its getting tough to get the sleds to the snow.....
Thats it for now.....
