Friday March 7 2003....and Saturday the 8 th

Boy o Howdy Did we get some Snow

And We Got Stuck too

A group of us went up toward Mt Defiance Friday Afternoon.... Unloaded at Kingsley Reservoir.  Snow was marginal at the Reservoir.   We Ate a lotta base rock till we got over to Dead Point Rd.  Snow got Deeper fast, and was Wet too.  I call it "Cascade Concrete"  Perfect Snowman makin Snow....We went about a mile and a half to the T-Intersection ....We went left toward Rainey Lake... The Snow was gettin deeper fast... I was leading and had to heel over a bit to get around the turn.... I was thinkin, damn,  this is gonna be tough snow...  I went up around the corner, found a wide spot and attempted to turn around.. jumped up on a  small bench and trenched out just as my right ski hooked a limb buried in the snow....1st Stickof the day...It wasnt really all that bad.... got out the shovel and dug out the front and could go again....
Snow was Packing real hard....

I didnt realize it when I did My first stick.... we lost the "Tail End Charlie" I never can remember his name.. I call him the "Wild Italian" at the T-Intersection 1/4 mile back... Eric made up around the corner past me  and up into the old Rock Pit.. and back... Cory Stopped and helped me too....Eric went back to the Intersection and got the other sled goin again..... After Eric got Stuck there too
just tryin to get turned around...... We  all got up into the old Rock Pit and got turned around and at least headed down hill again and parked in Eric's track from his first pass in there.....

Nobody Stuck Right Now..... hehe

About this time we decided to head toward Mt Defiance... thinkin it might an easier  run... and It was till we  slowed down... I was the Lucky One... I got to break trail...... and it was fun too.....Good Runnin....  Till ya had to let off........

These Damn Sleds dont make very good Snow Plows......

This is what it was like..... Every Time we Stopped...

Eric came up behind and parked behind me... In My Rut.... Notice the side of the Rut on the low side of His Sled.. Packed "Cascade Concrete"

And another Stick

They got the Sled up out of the rut... Eric's Still in the Rut

That was the Story of Our Afternoon... If ya  could keep the Power On ya could go...Kinda.....Couldnt do  much Carving Either....too Tight most of the time....Just runnin the roads was like Carving open Meadows....Lots of Work..... and More when we got Stuck..... which was every time we slowed down for a tight turn or had to turn around....

Up by the Rock Pit we measured 33-37" of New Wet Snow..Up By the Defiance Gate we measured 48" of That Stuff....  Wet....It was Virtually Bare before this Storm... Hopefully it will stay around and not run off too fast... Irrigation is gonna be tough around here this Summer if  we dont get some help with the Snow Pack

I got only 17 miles on my Odometer....About 7 of them eatin some Base Rock gettin to the Dead Point Rd and one pass downhill for about 2 miles..
It was fun but We all Paid the Price gettin UnStuck all the time
I was all tuckered out.....Got home and ate some food,  set down and went to sleep for 8 Hrs  ;-))

Saturday March 8th

Eric, Mike, Scott and his 2 Sons, and I Unloaded at the Owens Ranch on 17 about noon.. The weather had settled a bit and it was a bit warm too.... almost 40 degrees

The Snow was  just as wet as Friday Afternoon and We Got Stuck just as Often too.....Some  of the Sticks were from stopping too close to the guy in front, then the guy in front Nailed it and Buried the Poor Guy behind..... Happened more than once too. hehehe.... I didnt get many pix on the way up....had a few trees across the rd....over most of them.. had to cut one out.... 3 different Sleds blew belts tryin to break trail the first  10 miles... Had to start takin it easier then... Eric felt his  Engine start to Tighten Up and saved it.... the Pistons were a bit too clean tho..Hope He didnt scuff the Cylinders and Pistons ..He had to ease off even more then
..

Finally got to Brooks Meadows and 44 Junction...... Not a Track either Direction

This pix is lookin down toward Hwy 35.....The same headed East too..It didnt look that way  for Long tho... Scott Made a Big Dent in the Snow as He was turnin East

I didnt get my Camera out fast enough... He was back right side up too fast

We headed East on 44.. No Tracks but Ours

Got about half way up to the break at Bottle Prairie and Eric Blew the last Belt
of the Day.....The Guys were Jabberin and  Helpin Eric get UnStuck.... I guess He was Stuck when He stopped after Blowin the Belt.... In the middle of a 2 Lane Road.... hehe....I felt Confident enough to Break Trail on over the Hill and down too Billy-Bob...  I got it goin and was able to get almost 45 mph Track Speed in that Stuff.... I've heard thats pretty good..... After I got on the Plane I could could get right a 65 MPH on that Stuff...... The Road was wide open and Safe....I backed off then to save my belt too.....Made it....

We finally found some Groomer Tracks...Down by the Flag Point Rd, and a few other Sleds.... The Groomer made a 5-7 mile loop around and back to the Snow Park..... They Never did get into any of the Deep Stuff.....and Broke a Steering Ball Joint.... I heard They hooked it on a Stump...On The RD  ???....... The Groomer over there seems to be Broke Down anytime there's any Snow to be Groomed....

Weather finally turned out nice and Sunny, and Warm... too Warm

There several Rigs in there and got in some Visitin...

They didnt venture off the Groomed Trail very far.....Tough Goin out there Today.....

We all got back OK....  I got in 35 miles  .... theGuys breakin  Trail  got more...
Track Spin.. hehe..Everyone....Had Fun....The Suits were Dry Outside, and Wet Inside.....

Some of the Guys are  gonna try to get up 44 from Little John tonight
Should be better..  tho all the Snow on the HeadLight is  gonna make for some Blind Runnin... hehe
