This is a  D7L Double Drum Winch...... I would guess it was manufactured in the late 40's or 50"s
It was last Mounted to a TD-20 B International Tractor (with an adaptor)... It was designed for a bolt on to a Older D7 Caterpillar....The Drum Operator normally stood on the Right Rear of the Machine on a platform...... He had 2 pedals for the Brakes, and 2 Levers for the  Clutches.. He would stand on the Haulback Brake while Pulling on the Main Clutch......for the InHaul, and vice versa OutHaul.

This Winch was taken off about 10 yrs ago......I would suppose all the Bearings and Clutches should be replaced.    I know the Brake drums are out of round, and should be machined to promote smoother operation....It'll work now OK but the operator will be  bounced up and  down as the  drum turns.........It  had a Skidder FairLead Mounted to it..... The FrameWork is still on it and has  the mounts for the  # 36 Air Brake Cans with Spring's for Parking and Safety, as used on a Heavy Truck.....I used Air to Control when I had it.....I never had the Manual Controls.....I think I still have the Air Manifold and the Control Valves around here somewhere...... Manual Controls could be fabricated fairly  easily......

With the Extra Framework this measures Approx  6'6" wide, 4' deep, 4'high, and about 2' of DriveShaft sticking out the rear...  I cant even  guess how much it weighs..... as much as 6-8000#'s?

You can see one of the Air Cans Hooked to the Main Clutch... the Clutches used smaller than  the 36 cans I mentioned earlier.....36's on the Brakes....  This one looks like a #20 Can on the Clutche.....

The Mounting holes at the bottom of the pix... the top set are approx 42 1/4"
the second set are 42"..... there are more at the Bottom buried in the ground.....
I think there 2 side by side in each bottom corner.....

I think of this as a Collectors Item .......I wouldnt reccomend this for high production Logging...... the Brakes get Hot fairly  fast if Ya have to ride them much to keep tension.....I dont really remember how fast the Line Speeds, or Line Pull
Seems the Mains are fairly slow and  HaulBack fast..... as is usually the case.....  with the Haulback Brake set Loose.... a couple of men could pull line of by hand..... The Mains.... No way........Most of  the Winch sets I saw in pictures had a  smaller Haywire Drum to pull the Main and Haulbacks for the setups..... This one didnt have it when I  got it..... I last used this winch to Log With in about 1985
It whole Machine was used mostly as a TailHoldCat for a RunningSkyline on a Swing Yarder
I liked the idea of 2 Guy Lines on the Tail Cat... and  the Fairlead was fairly high... Didnt want to tip it over on sidehauls fairly close to the tailhold.....
